We have all sat in meetings discussing the cost of delivering patient care, and the edict from administrators has long been “reduce cost.” However, we understand that simply reducing cost may negatively affect patient care, thus an emphasis has been placed on the value equation of patient care: value = (quality + outcomes)/cost.
Costs can be high as long as quality or outcomes are proportionately improved. The same corollary can be made for medical societies.
