Study Finds Connection Between Barrett’s and Early GI Cancers

Chicago—Having a diagnosis of Barrett’s esophagus is associated with having earlier-stage gastric cancers beyond the gastroesophageal junction, researchers have found.

The surprising results came from a retrospective analysis of a multiethnic and multiracial cohort at an urban hospital, and were presented at the American Gastroenterological Association’s 2016 James W. Freston Conference. Barrett’s esophagus is known to sometimes progress into
