From Minimally Invasive To ‘Microinvasive’: The Potential for Lap Appendectomy

ORLANDO, Fla.—In the continuing evolution of laparoscopic surgery, with the right tools and some adjustments to technique, appendectomy has the potential to move from a minimally invasive procedure to a micro-invasive one, according to a series carried out at a rural hospital in Appalachian Maryland.

“The preferred technique for most surgeons performing an appendectomy is to place one 10-mm to 12-mm trocar in the umbilicus and two 5-mm trocars, and many use either
