Surgeons know the grim statistics on physician burnout.
The data to date show that 40% to 60% of practicing physicians experience burnout, and rates of depression and suicide are about two times higher among physicians compared with the general population. Burnout has been linked to an increase in medical errors, worse quality of care, reduced work satisfaction and greater likelihood of attrition (Mayo Clin Proc 2018;93[11]:1571-1580).
The research on burnout may paint a bleak
