SAVANNAH, Ga.—Use of a standardized protocol involving abbreviated small bowel follow-through, an approach that grants a bit more flexibility than the standard approach, may result in a reduced length of stay for patients being managed nonoperatively for small bowel obstruction, according to the results of a new study.
Despite the prevalence and expense of small bowel obstruction (SBO), which accounts for up to 15% of surgical admissions and an estimated cost of more than
