Exposure to biologic agents within 60 days before surgery for inflammatory bowel disease is not associated with postoperative infections, surgical site infections or anastomotic leak, according to new research. The findings, presented at the 2022 annual meeting of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (abstract SP11), suggests that biologics do not need to be held before surgery for IBD. This is the largest study by far on this topic.
