Laparoscopy Improves Outcomes in Emergent Ventral Hernia Repair

Shorter Hospital Stay, Less Morbidity Than Open Surgery

Laparoscopy for emergency ventral hernia repair might be uncommon, but according to recent research, it may be beneficial compared with an open approach.

A retrospective analysis of more than 13,000 cases from the American College of Surgeons’ National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (NSQIP) database has found that patients who underwent laparoscopic emergent ventral hernia repair (VHR) had a significantly decreased postoperative length of stay versus treatment by open
