A history of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection can complicate outcomes in ventral hernia repair, but the extent of the effect remains unclear.
A recent study from surgeons at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in Nashville, Tenn., found that patients with a previous MRSA infection had a greater risk for a surgical site infection (SSI) 30 days after a ventral hernia repair (J Am Coll Surg 2015;221:470-477).
