Chair Sleeping: Special Relevance to Wound Care

The term “chair sleeper” is used to describe patients who will only sleep in a chair or recliner, and not in a bed. Certain types of wounds may be impossible to heal if chair sleeping is not identified and corrected. In particular, ischial wounds, coccyx wounds and lower extremity wounds associated with conditions such as edema and lymphedema, are greatly affected by chair sleeping.

In the case of ischial and coccyx wounds, it is the inability to offload
