For the last few years, researchers have been developing a novel clinical imaging modality to provide immediate visualization of cellular structures in live tissue, which could help surgeons diagnose muscle disease and skin cancers.
The device is based on imaging technology that has existed in a more primitive, cumbersome form since the 1990s. The technology, called multiphoton microscopy, is a noninvasive laser scanning technique that produces high-resolution three-dimensional
