Redefining ‘Difficult’ Colonoscopy: Tips on Tackling the Challenge

Practice and modifications to simple techniques can help endoscopists steer their way through tricky colonoscopies.

From looping, navigating through the colon and reaching the cecum, endoscopists face many challenges during colonoscopies, and one examination may be more difficult than the next.

“When you think about difficult colonoscopy, I would encourage everybody to see this as a colonoscopist issue rather than a patient problem,” said Jenifer Lightdale, MD,
