Adjacent Biopsies Yield Little Value in IBD

Taking biopsies from tissue adjacent to polyps provides little added value to clinicians treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease, researchers have found.

The study, presented at the 2017 annual meeting of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO), is the latest in a series of trials showing that modern endoscopes, with their superior views, have rendered polyp-adjacent biopsies obsolete (Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol 2017;15:222-228; ECCO 2016; poster 286).
