Fine Needle Biopsy: Fewer Passes, Better Specimens

A newer version of a technique for taking biopsies of the pancreas and other solid tissues may be more effective at procuring usable samples than traditional tools, a recent study has found.

Researchers at Indiana University found that fine needle biopsy (FNB) under endoscopic ultrasound guidance obtained more diagnostic samples with fewer passes in patients with solid lesions, primarily in the pancreas, than a method using fine needle aspiration (FNA).
