Cold Snare Polypectomy: Don’t Limit Yourself!

The emphasis in polypectomy should be on eradicating lesions, but endoscopists too often complicate matters by choosing more difficult approaches to the procedure.

In particular, clinicians perform hot snare polypectomy when they could be using cold snare instead, according to Cyrus Piraka, MD, the chief of advanced therapeutic endoscopy at Henry Ford Hospital, in Detroit. Cold snare polypectomy is associated with less risk for delayed bleeding and other complications, and
